«Bacchus» has gone from a champagne factory to the industry leader in the country for seventy-five years.Today we make over 80 types of products. And our cognac gained its legendary status long time ago.
We are conscious and proud of our history – it’s a long way of development of an establishment with its victories, challenges and overcomes. It’s important for us that Kazakhstanis feel their relation to this big story because «Bacchus» is an asset of the whole nation.
The history of quality and taste
1948
The construction of Alma-Ata plant of champagne and vintage wines was begun. The first batch of bottled champagne made of grape from own vineyards was put into still unfinished basements.
1950
The first 5 thousand bottles of Kazakhstan champagne was produced.
1955
The plant started its work. Three years later 300 thousand bottles of champagne were produced. It was the first sparkling wine in Central Asia made by classic technology and «cuvee” method.
1957-1965
The capacity of manufacture was increased — 2.5 millions of bottles per year are made by the continuous method,300 thousand — by classic technology. The production of vintage and ordinary wines began — 1200 thousand dal per year.
1974
The production of cognac began — 260 thousand dal per year. Cognac spirits from Cyprus,France,Romania and Bulgaria were used in the first Kazakhstani cognacs.
1989
By that year the amount of champagne produced decreased by 3 times,amount of wine — by 10 times,and amount of cognac — by 4 times. It was because of Gorbachev's anti-alcohol campaign that started in 1985. In 1989 the plant resurrected under the new name of «Production association «Beverages».
1993
We began to produce the «Jibek Joly» vodka with the unique system of water softening. The plant managed to purchase from a submarine the air purifier and desalter taking chlorine and heavy metals out of water.
1994
On the basis of vineyard enterprises the joint Kazakhstani-Australian enterprise «Kazvino» was founded.
1995
The enterprise was transformed into «Bacchus» joint stock company.
2006-2007
The plant received MS ISO 9000 and MS ISO 22000 quality management certificates. «Bacchus» became the first enterprise in CIS obtaining the approval from this international standard of food safety management system.
2009
«Bacchus» had a makeover — the rebranding took place. The plant got a new logo,new labels for bottles. The technology of «cold filling» saving of natural saturated taste and quality of wine was introduced.
2010
New brand were launched to the Kazakhstani market: cognac «Bacchus Kazakhstan», «Bacchus VS», 3 stars cognac «Kazakhstani,Export» and brandy «Dármen».
2011
For the first time in Kazakhstan Italian technology of producing the grape materials from sulfitated mash was introduced. New varietal wines «Chardonnay», «Merlot», «Saperavi classic» and vodka «Dostar Premium» were launched to the market.
2012-2013
The 65th anniversary of «Bacchus» was celebrated. The company became the leader of the winemaking industry in the country. In 2012 the plant received an award from «Choice of the year #1 in Kazakhstan» international competition and «Paryz» award for the best collective agreement. For the anniversary «Bacchus» releases «Kazakhstani five years old cognac».
2014
Restyling of cognacs and wines was undertaken. The new brands were launched to the market: wine «Golden bunch», «Kazakhstani cognac» in 0.2 l bottle. At the 33rd international contest «Golden griffin — 2014» in Yalta vintage cognac «Batyr» and «Kazakhstani five years old cognac» won gold medals. Cognac «Batyr» was awarded with a diploma for the best design.
2015
The range of products was expanded — we released brandy «Ular», «Dármen» in 0.2 l bottle,new carbonated semi-sweet wine «Amber bunch». For the second consecutive year «Kazakhstani five years old cognac» was awarded with a gold medal at the international contest «Golden griffin» in Yalta.
2016
The international seminar «Winemaking without borders» took place at the plant with the participants from Ukraine,Russia,Moldova and Uzbekistan. Kazakhstani winemakers with the support from «Bacchus» company registered the association of wine products manufacturers,«Kazakhstan League of winemakers».
2017
Exclusively for the Expo 2017 in Astana 4 stars cognac «Astana» and «Astana Premium» champagne were released.
«Bacchus» wins all of three nominations of the «Choice of the year award»: «Domestic cognac # 1 — 2017», «Domestic champagne # 1 — 2017», «Winemaker # 1».
